Mtn Slot Corner is a Shotgun concept built around the slot receiver running a corner route out of the mountain (bunch-style) alignment, designed to attack the outside void created against zone shells while still holding up versus man coverage on the outside. The play mixes a deep corner breaking route with underneath crossers and flat routes to give you a high low read against zone, while also offering a rub release for the slot man beater against press or trail technique. Your primary progression starts with the slot corner route working to the void between the flat defender and deep half safety, then works down to the underneath crosser or flat route if the corner window is closed.
Read the deep safeties before the snap, two high alignment with soft corners signals zone coverage and tells you the slot corner route will have room to work in the deep outside third. Watch the flat defender or slot cornerback at the snap, if they sink hard into the flat that confirms zone and you should climb the ladder to the corner route immediately. If the cornerback and slot defender crash down on the mountain bunch at the snap expecting a rub, that usually means man coverage with no help over the top, which favors the corner route winning late. Beware of Cover 3 buzz or Cover 4 quarters shells with an overhang defender sitting at the corner route depth, that defender can undercut the throw if the quarterback does not anticipate the window closing. Watch for blitz packages that bring pressure off the edge or a nano blitz look, since a hot corner route with a delayed break gives the quarterback less time to climb the pocket, so identify pressure pre-snap and adjust protection or hot route the underneath option if needed.
Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see two high safeties sitting deep the slot corner route has a great chance to sit in the honey hole between the corner and safety before the safety can rotate over.
Against man coverage, especially press man, expect natural traffic from the mountain alignment to spring the slot receiver open on the corner break, so trust the initial window and let the route develop.
Use hot routes to convert the underneath crosser into a shallow drag if you diagnose a Cover 3 sky look, that keeps the flat defender occupied and opens the corner route even more.
