Double Snag out of Shotgun Duo Offset gives you two snag concepts stacked on the same or opposite sides, pairing a corner route with an underneath flat or curl to attack both zone and man coverage. The design is a classic zone beater built to punish Cover 3 and Cover 4 by working the flat defender and hole defender with conflicting routes, though it also holds up against man coverage thanks to the natural rub and pick action from the shorter routes. The primary read progression starts with the corner route on the boundary, then works down to the snag or spot route underneath, and finishes with the check down or flat route if the deep and intermediate windows are covered.
Watch the flat defender or cornerback in zone drops, if he sinks with the corner route the snag underneath will be wide open for an easy completion Key the hole player or safety rotating down, in Cover 3 he has to choose between the corner and the snag which creates a natural conflict you can exploit with ball placement Against Cover 4 look for the corner to stay on top of the vertical corner route while the underneath defenders squeeze the shorter routes, this favors the check down or flat option Man coverage with underneath linebackers in trail technique gets beat easily by the natural spacing and rub from the two stacked concepts, look for a pick opportunity Beware of a disguised blitz where the slot corner or nickel blitzes off the edge, this can collapse the pocket before the corner route develops so have your check down ready
Identify the coverage shell pre-snap by checking safety depth, if you see two high safeties sitting deep expect Cover 4 or Cover 2 and prioritize the underneath snag route since the corner will be capped
If the corner shows single high look for Cover 3 and take a shot on the corner route against the flat defender who has to choose between the flat and the curl
Use motion pre-snap to identify man versus zone, if the defender follows your motion man across the formation you are in man coverage and can lean on the natural rub from the snag concept
Hot route the underneath snag route into a quick out or drag if you are facing a hard corner blitz off the edge to give your quarterback a faster release valve
Sequence this play after running RPO Alert Slant or RPO Alert HB Flat to condition the defense to bite on quick underneath throws, then hit the corner route for an explosive gain when the flat defender jumps the shallow stuff
