LB Pop 0 is a zero blitz package out of the Nickel Swap Dbl Mug set, showing double mug linebackers at the line before the snap to disguise pressure. This is a man beater blitz that sends extra rushers off the edge or through interior gaps while playing straight man across the board with no deep safety help, forcing the offense into quick decisions. The primary read progression for the defense is to identify which linebacker drops into a pop zone (usually a shallow hole or curl area) while the rest crash the pocket, so the user needs to key on the running back or slot receiver leaking into that vacated zone as the first answer against the blitz.
Pre-snap, check the running back alignment and slot receiver depth since offenses often check into a quick screen or hot route when they detect double mug linebackers threatening the A gaps. Post-snap, key the tackles and center for their block assignments, if they immediately turn to pick up interior blitzers that confirms the zero pressure is unblocked and you should expect a quick throw underneath. This play shuts down man beater route combos like slants and drags that rely on timing, since the extra rusher disrupts the quarterback's rhythm before routes develop. It is vulnerable to hot route adjustments into fade routes or go routes against your outside corners in man coverage, since there is no safety help over the top. Watch for play-action rollouts and RPOs, since holding the mug linebackers at the snap to sell run support can bait a false read and open cutback lanes or leave the pop zone late.
Use LB Pop 0 on third and medium or third and long when you need a negative play or a forced incompletion against teams that rely on quick game passing.
Disguise the double mug alignment by mixing it into your play calling rotation alongside SS Dog 3 and Blitz Loop 0 so quarterbacks cannot key on the pre-snap look and audible into a hot route beater.
User the popping linebacker manually to jump shallow crossers or check releases from the running back since the CPU AI can be late getting to that zone drop.
Avoid calling this against empty backfield sets or teams that spam quick slants, since zero coverage leaves no deep help and any late pop leaves the middle wide open for a big play.
Pair this blitz with Cover 1 Games earlier in a series so the offense sees man coverage shells and cannot distinguish blitz from base defense until after the snap.
