HB Counter Wk is a power run play out of the I Form H Pro set that pulls the weak side guard and fullback to lead through the hole while the offensive line blocks down to seal the counter action. The diagram shows the HB taking a counter step before following his lead blockers through the weak side gap, with the FB kicking out the edge defender. This is a downhill run play designed to attack over pursuit and misdirection minded defensive fronts, and the primary read progression is patience: press the initial fake, locate the pulling guard, and follow the FB block through the designed lane before bending it backside if the alley opens up.
Look for linebackers flowing hard to the initial step since aggressive flow defenders get sealed by the counter action and create the cutback lane. Check safety depth before the snap because a single high safety struggles to fill the alley in time against this power scheme. Watch for edge defenders crashing down on the counter step since a disciplined DE who sits and reads can blow up the FB kickout block. Nano blitz packages that send extra defenders through the play side gap neutralize this run before the pulling guard arrives. Cover 3 and Cover 1 shells with light boxes are the most vulnerable to this concept, while stacked eight man fronts with quick trigger linebackers shut it down.
Run this out of standard personnel on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and medium to keep the defense honest against pass heavy calls from H Pro. Check the defensive front pre-snap for overload blitzes to the play side since counter needs time to develop and gets blown up by fast penetration. Use the left trigger or right trigger to manually control your lead FB block if the CPU AI misreads the assignment against stacked fronts. Pair this with HB Slam and PA Scissors in the same set so defenses cannot sit on the counter timing after seeing it once. Audible into a strong side run look if the defense shows a heavy shift toward the weak side pre-snap.
