Fk FB Toss Boot Rt is a play-action boot concept built off the fullback toss fake in the Flexbone formation. The offensive line sells the outside toss run action while the quarterback fakes the pitch and rolls right off the fake, hitting the edge with a boot pass off the same look as FB Toss. This is a play-action man and zone beater that punishes linebackers and safeties who bite on the run fake, with the primary read being the flat or shallow crosser first before working back to any deeper breaking route on the boot side.
Pre-snap, check linebacker depth and alignment since stacked or crashing linebackers indicate they are selling out against the run fake and will be late getting to boot flow Watch safety rotation before the snap, if both safeties are shaded toward the box or showing run support look this play has a clean window to attack the boot side Post-snap, read the flow of the linebackers, if they flow hard toward the toss fake the flat and shallow routes will be open behind them Identify contain defenders on the boot side, a disciplined defensive end or outside linebacker staying home to protect the edge can force the quarterback to throw earlier or scramble This play struggles against zone coverages with a cornerback sitting in the flat and a linebacker spying the quarterback rollout, since both the flat throw and the scramble lane get taken away
Call this play after establishing FB Toss and FB Dive earlier in the drive so linebackers start keying run action out of Flexbone personnel
Look for safeties creeping into the box pre-snap or linebackers stacked tight to the line, since that confirms they are respecting the fullback run game and sets up the boot fake
Use this on early downs like first and ten or second and short when defenses are more likely to load up against the option and toss game
Hot route the flat route to a speed out if you see a cornerback sitting low in a zone shell, and check the deep route to a comeback against aggressive man corners playing off coverage
Sequence this with Midline Triple and Inside Veer Triple Opt in the same series so the defense has multiple run keys to respect before you pull the boot on them
