Far Slot takes the base Far backfield alignment (halfback and fullback offset toward the strong side) and moves one receiver into the slot on the weak side, creating a 2x2 look with heavy 21 personnel behind it. That is the key separator from Far Close or Far Pro: instead of stacking bodies tight to the formation and forcing the defense to defend the box, Slot puts a receiver in the seam between the numbers and the hash where zone leverage gets ugly. Defenses that check into single high with a linebacker walked out to cover the slot are giving you an immediate mismatch, and defenses that stay in base personnel are asking a 65 speed linebacker to run with your third wideout.
The alignment matters for the run game too. With the fullback and halfback both in the backfield, FB Dive and HB Dive stay live as legitimate short yardage answers, so your opponent cannot just sub in nickel and forget about the box. That run threat is what makes Curl Drag, Curls, and Double Slant so effective out of this set: the linebackers have to respect the dive read before they can expand to the flat, which is exactly the half second the drag and slant need to work.
Slot also unlocks the Gadget element of the set. HB Slip Screen and Smash Swing use the offset backfield to get the halfback moving laterally with numbers, and China Special layers a deep shot behind the same underneath spacing you have been hammering. WR Attack is your vertical answer when the defense starts squatting on everything under 10 yards. The slot receiver is the isolated read on most of these concepts, so identify your best route runner and put him there before you ever call the play.
Read the defender over the slot before the snap. Linebacker means Double Slant or the slot vertical from WR Attack. Nickel corner in press means motion the slot and check the leverage rotation.
Use FB Dive and HB Dive in second and short and third and one to keep your opponent in base personnel, then run Curl Drag on the next series against the same look.
Hot route the halfback to a flat or angle route on Curls and Double Slant to give yourself a checkdown when your opponent is bringing five or more rushers.
Save China Special for after you have hit the drag and curl combos a few times, because it needs the hook defenders to jump the short routes to open the deep window.
Against heavy inside pressure, slide protect toward the blitz side and use HB Slip Screen as your pressure beater rather than trying to block it up straight.
