Breakdown

Dash Flood is a three level flood concept run from Shotgun out of the Wing HB Wk Close set in 12 personnel. The backside receiver runs a deep vertical route stemming up the numbers, the middle target breaks outside on a corner route from the seam, and the underneath receiver runs a flat route to the same side, creating a high low low stretch on the sideline defender. The lone route away from the flood is a quick out breaking pattern that gives you a built in answer if the defense overloads the flood side, making this a strong Cover 3 beater with a clear vertical to underneath progression: corner route first, flat route second, backside out as the checkdown.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is showing single high safety or two high, single high is where this concept does the most damage against Cover 3. Watch the flat defender post-snap, if he widens too fast with the flat route it opens the corner route throwing window behind him. Key the deep third or deep half defender on the flood side, if he sits on the corner route the flat route will be wide open underneath. Against man coverage, look for a user controlled defender jumping the flat route since that leaves the corner route in a one on one vertical matchup. Watch for a lurking linebacker or nickel defender sitting in the shallow flood zone, that user can bait the flat throw and jump the route for a pick.

Usage Tips

Check the safety alignment before the snap, single high safety looks are a green light since this is built to stress the deep third defender on the flood side.

Read the corner route first because it attacks the seam to sideline void that Cover 3 defenders struggle to close on in time.

If the cornerback sinks with the corner route, work down to the flat route for an easy pitch and catch underneath.

Use the backside out route as a hot route answer versus man coverage or when the defense rolls extra help to the flood side.

Pair this with HB Base or Outside Zone to keep the defense honest on early downs, then hit Dash Flood on second and medium once you see a Cover 3 shell.
