Defensive Reads

Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they step up hard on the run fake the seam window opens immediately behind them. Post-snap, key any user-controlled safety or lurking linebacker sitting in the middle third, a disciplined defender who stays home on the play action can jump the seam route for a turnover. Usage Tips
Use PA HB Seam on early downs when the defense expects run based on personnel and formation tendencies, since the play action fake needs linebackers to step up to sell the seam. Check safety alignment before the snap, if you see two deep safeties shaded outside the numbers the seam has a clean throwing lane against Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells. Hot route the shallow drag into a quick out if you see man coverage with no underneath help, giving you a faster release against blitz-heavy calls. Pair this play with Inside Zone Lt in your sequencing so the run fake carries real weight, then dial up PA HB Seam once the defense starts crashing downhill on early down runs. Against zone heavy defenses, look to the deep crosser sitting down in the void between the flat defender and hook defender rather than forcing the seam into a robber defender.
