PA All In from Shotgun Normal Flex Snug is a play-action shot play built off a two receiver out concept on the perimeter with a deep dig from the slot. Both outside receivers run vertical stems that break hard outside toward the sideline, occupying the boundary defenders, while the inside receiver runs a deep in breaking route across the middle of the field that settles in the void behind linebackers. The play action fake holds the front seven for a beat, and the primary read progression starts with the deep dig sitting down over the middle before working out to either boundary out route depending on which side the defense opens up.
Defensive Reads
Man coverage with no safety help over the top gets exposed by the deep dig, since it creates natural separation crossing the field against trailing defenders. Zone defenses that widen their flat defenders on the play fake open up the boundary out routes for an easy pitch and catch. Watch for a robber or lurk defender sitting in the middle of the field, since that defender can undercut the dig route if the quarterback stares it down too long. Cover 2 with aggressive corners jumping the outs can bait a turnover if the quarterback does not check the flat defender before releasing the ball. Blitz heavy fronts that crash the play fake hard can beat this play if the offensive line does not pick up extra rushers, so identify pre-snap blitz indicators like walked up linebackers or safeties creeping into the box.
Usage Tips
Use PA All In on early downs when you have already established the run game so the play fake actually freezes linebackers.
Check the deep safety alignment before the snap, if you see a single high safety cheating to one side, throw the dig away from that rotation.
Hot route the running back into a check release if you are worried about a nano blitz off the edge since the play action fake alone will not hold blitzers.
Pair this play with 45 Quick Base or RPO Alert WR Screens earlier in a series so the defense respects quick game and bites harder on the play fake.
Attack Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells specifically since the outside outs punish the flat defender and the dig sits in the seam between hook zones.
