The Texans currently hold $1629.2M in cap room, ranked 13th in the league, which provides a workable starting position, but that comfort is partly illusory given the $60.8M in dead cap already on the books, a figure that ranks among the highest in the league. The committed spend balloons to $351.2M next season before dropping sharply to $178.7M the year after, meaning the team faces a tight middle year before genuine flexibility returns. The rollover of $4.0M, ranked 24th leaguewide, offers limited cushion. The good news is that 24 expiring contracts create natural relief points, and by the time committed spend falls to $117.2M three seasons out, Houston should have real room to act aggressively in free agency around its young core. In the near term, the priority cuts of Davis Mills, Jake Andrews, and Xavier Hutchinson can recover more than $16M in clean savings with almost no dead-money consequence, which helps bridge the gap through the expensive middle season.
