The design pairs a five or six man rush look with the offense running quick, high percentage routes to attack the space the blitzing safety leaves behind, making this a zone beater against teams that sit in soft shells or Cover 3 on early downs. Your primary read progression starts with the flat or quick out route to the slot, then works to the shallow crosser underneath if the corner sinks, using the blitz timing to create a free access throwing lane before the pass rush closes.
Pre-snap, identify whether the strong safety is showing blitz by creeping toward the box or the line of scrimmage, since that tips the pressure and tells you where the soft spot in coverage will be. Watch cornerback depth on the slot receiver: press alignment signals man coverage that this play struggles against, while soft alignment signals zone that the quick routes will exploit. Post-snap, key the middle linebacker's drop, because if he sinks into the shallow zone instead of blitzing, the underdneath crossing route gets taken away and you need to check down immediately. This play gets shut down by disciplined zone blitz packages where the rushing safety is replaced by a linebacker dropping into the vacated zone, so watch for late rotation from a deep safety filling that gap. Man coverage with a user spy or lurking linebacker in the shallow area can jump the primary route, so have your quarterback ready to reset to the backside checkdown if the user defender bites on the crosser.
Call SS Pressure on early downs when the CPU or opponent shows a two high shell that they like to rotate down after the snap, since the blitz timing punishes late rotations before the safety gets home. Check the flat defender pre-snap: if a linebacker walks out wide to the slot receiver, hot route your slot to a slant to sit in the throwing lane the blitzing safety opens up. Use this play in sequence after HB Slip Screen to bait aggressive user blitzers into flying upfield, then hit them with the quick flat route for an easy explosive play. Save SS Pressure for third and short or second and medium situations where a quick underneath completion converts the down without needing a deep shot. Pair it with Y Shallow Cross in your play calling script so the defense has to respect both the shallow crosser and the blitz look from the same personnel and formation, keeping them guessing on run fits and coverage rotation.
