The tight end works a shallow crosser or flat route that clears space underneath while the running back checks into a swing or leak route to give you a checkdown against pressure. Primary read progression starts with the trips side isolation route on the outside, moves to the backside dig if the corner sits, and ends with the running back leak as the outlet against a hard blitz.
Watch for single high safety pre-snap, which tips man coverage underneath and opens the trips isolation route as your first target. If the corner over the trips side is shaded outside with inside linebacker help, expect a bracket look designed to take away the outside release, so work the dig route instead. Post-snap, identify user-controlled lurk defenders sitting in the middle of the field, since they can jump the backside dig if the quarterback stares it down too long. Cover 3 zone drops with a hard flat defender will clog the running back leak route, so switch your first read to the crosser sitting in the void behind the linebackers. Blitz-heavy fronts that bring extra rushers off the edge will collapse the pocket fast, so key the running back release immediately to see if he stays in to block or leaks out as a checkdown.
Pre-snap, check the trips side corner alignment: if he is playing tight man with no safety help over the top, target the outside isolation route immediately off the snap.
Look for two high safeties rotating down to the trips side, that usually signals zone coverage, so shift your eyes to the backside dig or comeback route for the sit-down window.
Use hot routes to convert the running back into a pure blocker on third and long if you see a nano blitz look, since the leak route will not have time to develop against six or seven man pressure.
