Big Quarter 1-3-7 is a defensive personnel group that puts one defensive lineman, three linebackers, and seven defensive backs on the field, making it one of the heaviest coverage shells in the game while still keeping linebacker bodies available for run fits and blitz disguise. That 3-linebacker, 7-DB split is what separates it from standard Quarter looks: you get sub-package speed across the board without going full dime or prevent, so 3x1 and 4x1 empty sets do not automatically get a free matchup on a slow third linebacker. Against it, offenses have to declare early whether they are attacking with tempo runs and check-downs or trying to win vertically, because the extra safety bodies in Quarter > Over Load let you double the X, cap the seam, and still bracket the slot on the same snap.
